joyeux anniversaire, Baby Bilingual!

Yes, Bringing up Baby Bilingual is a year old today. Over the course of this year, you've watched my nephew Carl grown from a cooing baby to a talkative toddler, you've learned about bilingualism and second language acquisition in children along with me, you've seen me publish articles and columns in Multilingual Living Magazine, you've watched me tutor two little girls in French and figure out what to do and what not to do, you've met many children growing up with more than one language, and you've listened to my ideas about books, activities, and language learning. It's been a busy year!

I've been thrilled when people wrote in to share comments and experiences, when they've allowed me to interview them for profiles, when they've contacted me via email with questions or suggestions or encouragement (you can write to me at babybilingual at gmail dot com). All of you librarians, parents, and teachers have shared valuable resources with us. I love being part of this community, reading your blogs and your comments, learning from other websites about children and languages. I (and my husband and our future unborn children) thank you so much!

It's been a productive year: 94 posts, 50,000 words (for comparison, The Great Gatsby runs about 60,000), and an increasing number of readers every month!

It's also been fun to discover where "Bringing up Baby Bilingual" readers live. Thanks to Sitemeter, I can see where your computer servers are located. In addition to the countries listed in January, the last few months have also seen visitors from the following countries: Bulgaria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Egypt, Fiji, Indonesia, Kenya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, and Turkey.

That makes readers from 91 countries! So exciting! I dream someday of traveling to many of these faraway places. In the meantime, though, I'll keep learning and sharing and teaching. Thanks for joining me on this trip to bilingualism.
